HAPS Histology Image Database HomeThis is a featured page

Go To HAPS Homepage

This site is dedicated to providing medium and high resolution digital photomicrographs of human cells and tissues to the public domain, free of copyright, for any use, but especially for and by members of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society.

It is hoped that this database will assist in teaching college-level A & P by providing images that can be freely incorporated in lectures, quizzes, and labs without concern as to commercial rights or restrictions. HAPS members are encouraged to email William Karkow, MD, FACS at the University of Dubuque, IA (wkarkow@dbq.edu) if you would like to add images to this project.

To find and view images, you may either use the search box or click on the "thumbnail" categories to the left.

Image galleries can be browsed under the Thumbnails pages; full-resolution individual images are stored in individual Slide Box pages, which members should create under corresponding system headings.

Please see the thread below for copyright rules if you plan to post commercial slide images.

Note: The General Instructions page has been updated (29 Sept) with a "how to" section for all your editing questions. There is even a short screencast to highlight some features of your wiki site.

wkarkow Image File Format: use tiff 0 May 29 2009, 12:00 PM EDT by wkarkow

Carl Shuster pointed out that .jpg files get compressed more each time they are copied or manipulated. He recommends that all new images be added in tiff format to avoid a gradual loss of image resolution and I agree after testing and confirming the problem on this wiki.

Carolina has given permission for us to post photos of their slides here, with the restriction, "A copyright statement must appear with each photomicrograph taken of a Carolina Biological Supply Company created human tissue microscope slide, such statement to read as follows:

©Carolina Biological Supply Company, Burlington, N.C., Used with permission."

Ward's will allow us to post their images with the condition that photos are labelled as coming from a Ward's slide.
